I have a 12K lb Harbor Freight winch. I see there is a towbar adapter to attach one of the many winch mounting plates out there. Quest is what is the best way to get power to that winch?
What he said. TWICEBig winches pull tremendous amperage (current) under load, best cable would probably be #4 or #2 welding cable.... Do not be surprised under hard pull winch will severally drain battery and even maybe kill battery and alternator...
Yep. At full load, the 12K Harbor Freight APEX winch draws 448 Amps. A tractor alternator probably puts out in 40-50 Amp range. Speed at full load is 4.7 FPM. You won't pull heavy loads very far without draining your battery.Upgrade your alternator, while you are at it....
