I have a 1050 JD with about 3100 hrs on it. I bought it a couple of months ago. My most recent purchase was a finish mower. When I first got it, I could engage the PTO with no scrubbing. When I hook up the mower, it scrubs each time I try to engage the PTO. The first stage works fine, no gear scrubbing at all. IT appears that the second stage is not releasing. With no implement behind it, I suspect the PTO shaft does not have enough resistance to cause the PTO to scrub when engaging at an idle. When the mower is hooked up there is more resistance. The 1050 has a 3 cyl yanmar in it. I have a shop manual and it shows to adjust the PTO clutch with the tractor split. I have a small inspection plate on the side of the flywheel housing. When I remove the plate, I can see the PTO adjusting bolt, but there is a lock nut next to the pressure plate housing that I don't have access to. Anyone know any tricks? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and split the tractor? The clutch pedal is adjusted to the proper height now. Thanks in advance for your help!
