Adding mid-pto to `80\'s Kubota

I have a mid 80’s Kubota L355 SS that only has a rear PTO - from what I can tell (I’m a bit new to tractors). I have looked around to see what I can find for adding a mid PTO and have found nothing. I have talked with a couple of dealers and haven’t gotten any further with them since it is such an old tractor.

I don’t see where a mid PTO would be located on this tractor so I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that has made a kit that takes off the rear PTO for a mid location PTO?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Adding mid-pto to `80\'s Kubota

I'm finishing one up for a front mounted snowblower project. This guy could be used to power a mid mount mower. I've thought about that project, but for now I'm going to stick with the 3pt mower.

Oh, and don't forget to check your rotation. This installation needed a clockwise rotation.

There are gearboxes made for your situation. I've seen them but at the moment I can't recall a manufacturer name. I believe they run about $300.

Also, I think your tractor has the ablility to run a PTO from the front. Take a look at your crankshaft pully and the frame area around it. On my B2400, there are knockouts in the cowelling that allow a shaft to come up through and attach to the front of the crank.

Cord,

Yes, you have the same idea that I had. Only difference is I want to buy it while you have the time and capability to make it. What ratio are you using to step up the rpm for the blower? What rpm do mid-pto’s normally run? And, as you suggested, what direction does the mid-pto rotate?

Peter,

If you come up with a manufacturer I would love to hear about it.

The front of my engine does have what looks like a splined shaft, which also looks like it is the end of the crankshaft. Does something mount to that to make it a pto or do you connect directly to the shaft? It does not look like it has the recess for a lock pin on a typical pto drive shaft. Plus, it is a rather high location, which would make the drive shaft at a steep angle if it were to connect directly the existing shaft.

I think I need some enlightening here.

Thanks for your comments guys.

Re: Adding mid-pto to `80\'s Kubota

I used a 1.6:1 ratio. Basically, I knew the attachment required 1200 rpm. I have a 3 speed pto, so I decided to use the middle speed (750rpm). This will allow me to gear up or slow down the attachment based on the load or task.

Most mid pto's seem to run in the 1200 rpm range.

Sorry, I can't tell you which way the typical mid pto turns.
