I'm pulling the loader off my Iseki TX 1500 tractor that I've all but given up on fixing, and I'm going to put it on my Massey Ferguson MF 1215.

I also have to replace the PTO shaft on the Massey, and in the process I will drain all the hydraulic fluid and replace it with new. The Iseki uses good old universal tractor fluid, and the Massey uses the AGCO specific stuff.

What's the risk if the fluid that is in the loader gets mixed with the AGCO fluid in the Massey? How do I go about charging the loader with the right fluid?

I had considered adding the loader first and running it a bit before tackling the PTO. My hope is that this will dilute the UTF enough that there won't be any negative effects after I change the fluid while working on the PTO.

Any thoughts or advice will help.

Unless the hydraulic fluid in the Iseki was contaminated, I wouldn't worry about it. Add the loader, change the PTO shaft and away you go. You may want to change out the fluid a little early, say at 200 hrs or so, but otherwise you should be fine. UTF and most specific tractor fluids are fairly close in specification. The specialty fluid proabably has stronger additives and lower viscosity than the UTF, and by diluting them the service life of the fluid is slightly lower and protection not as great, but not by a lot

Just remove the cylinders from the loader-then retract them all the way to "squirt" out all the fluid in the cylinder. Then blow air through the hoses/hard lines to remove the fluid left in them. Whatever is left will cause no harm.

Ditto what kenny said. I've done that on old loaders befroe bolting hem up.

As crashz said though.. it likely wouldn't hurt if you hooked it up as long as it was clean fluid, before you did the major oil change..e tc..

The fluid in the old loader is good fluid. I just wondered if there could be some kind of incompatibility. It sounds like I'm okay, though.

I will probably do as suggested and manually empty the cylinders. I've thought about disassembling the loader anyway to "refurbish" it as much as possible, so tinkering with the cylinders won't be too much trouble. I've even thought about painting the loader massey red.

I promised myself I'd tile the fireplace, fix the front door, install the new windows, and patch the holes in the drywall in the dining room before I disappeared into the shop and left my wife a tractor widow again. In my perfect little world this will all happen over a weekend. In all probability, though, it will be the dead of winter by the time I get around to changing the loader over, and painting just won't even be an option.
