Well Saturday am I read about the Bxpanded blade install, So I thought I could rig up a similar deal with some used blade, So I found a decent one for $200 on our Kijiji, and started the Mk1 install. thus far it worked fine, needs power angle, if anyone has a suggestion,,,first try is to use a 6" wide v for the bucket edge to go in to, tied with a couple tacks and 2 5/16" through bolts, that were holding a 1/4" thick spacer under the latch, so replaced it with a piece of 1/4" plate.I thought for test one, to install 2 3/8" bolts to tie the (harder than the hinges of ****) edge of the bucket to the flat plate that was on the arms below.the back I tied with straps , Ill use load binders, after I take the ones I bought back to Princess auto, because the ends are on backward,I really like being able to push over a bank with the wheels on the clean surface. you can raise the loader, and drop the bucket so you can back drag.

Seems to me the place of attachment is too narrow for the forces at the end of the blade. You've got more weight pushing the blade than an ATV would have, so more force trying to shear those two small bolts. Maybe a longer piece of angle iron would give you a chance. Probably it will work ok for light snows. Looks like you got a nice blade though so you can most likely make it work.

I'd be little concern pushing heavy wet snow at angel w/1/4" bolts, may some sort stops each side for strain...nice quick setup you made.

Looks good my friend. Like the others have said, I might have went with a wider plate on the cutting edge but that blade will sure work better pushing snow than the bucket. You have the QA system. Why didn't you adapt the blade to the QA?

1/4 bolts in this application will yield after about 1100 lbs of force if grade 5 or twice that if they are grade 8. The trip springs should actuate before this but it's close to needing bigger bolts or a longer support across the cutting edge. The corners of the support will make a pivot for the blade like a teeter totter and compound any shear loads on the bolts. Worst case scenario of a load all the way at the edge that doesnt trip the springs (like a parking curb) will multiply the force the bolts must react to by about 3-4 depending on the actual geometry of the assembly.

Hi ,thanks for the input, after 2 days, and prob, 8 hrs of moving stuff, from fresh to day old wet then frozen crusty I pulled the grade 5 bolts,, no evidence of shouldering,I put grade 8 as a replacement, and long enough to use the full shoulder. I worried about the narrow front, but with the straps in the back, it never moves, the plate in the front, butts against the lip of the cutting edge, thus takes alot of the load..
AND Paul look what I see here...has your name on it.....

Nice adaptation

But like the others, Id probably do something about how its fastened to the bucket. Id go wider so that when you;re pushing, especially at angle, the force is spread over the whole cutting edge. Id also upgrade the bolts.

Seeing you have the factory QA, i would avoid mounting to the bucket at all and just use the QA.

I;m going to build an adapter like the Jari one, this spring. have everything to build it..Too nippy right now, but it doesnt budge when she is angled, and I;ve gave her a few hard bumps,Ill have to pop into princess to look at a power angle cylinder

Here are a few pics of my plow project. ATV plow that I tried to mount to the chassis at first but too much play, then I extended the length with square tube only to discover the original mounting plate was bending under the pressure. Then removed from the chassis and decided to mount on the bucket to allow for lifting to take tops off snow banks. I'm going to do something similar to the BXpanded this summer and maybe even add a tilt from my "new cab".

I have an old cycle country brand atv plow that I mount to my chassis. It works great. I use it when I'm in a hurry instead of front blower. Just added a tilt cylinder to it,makes it even faster to plow. The cylinder is from my homemade grapple that I built as a modular system. That way I can transfer different parts to different attachments. Saves money and space in garage.004.JPGMISC. TRACTOR 011.jpgplow 001.JPGplow 004.JPG I use 3rd function to control tilt and loader to raise. The mount to chassis let's me lift blade up about 4ft. in air for rolling over higher banks. I can move snow a lot faster with this set up on here, than on my Grizzly 660 atv.
