Add teeth or a tooth bar?

I have had a couple of different tooth bars and I think the piranha the best all around, at least to me.

Years ago I wanted to add a tooth bar to the bucket. Never could get a response from Piranha. I got a Rankin tooth bar. It's intended to clamp onto the bucket lip. I simply drilled thru the bucket and used 3/4" grade 8 bolts. It's not going anywhere.

I "made" mine - bought the teeth, 1/2 flat stock, couple bolts (one per side to hold it in place) crank up the ole stick welder and done. Real easy to take on/off, as mentioned prior digs a lot more with teeth on but some jobs you want a flat edge so nice to have both options. Most of the time the teeth stay on. Up until recently I had a thumb on my bucket as well so having the teeth made that more effective as well. (Thumb moving to a brush bucket I'm making now.)
I don't remember the prices now but certainly was cheaper to make it assuming you've got a welder handy.

I have the PTB and have uprooted honeysuckle up to 4" easily.
Comes off, goes on easy.
Good for hard dirt to get you started.

What are you digging in?
My soils are 90% small particles - sand, clay, gravel. PTB works GREAT. If I was moving boulders etc. I suspect a different type would be better.

I noticed these bolt on to the side of the bucket. Do they also bolt to the holes on the bottom of the bucket?
They do not come with the holes across the bottom. The teeth actually 'wrap' under the cutting edge and are fairly secure. I have a 66" wide bucket and I wanted it to be really secure, so I did drill the bar and bolted it to the cutting edge.

Oosik's Rankin looks similar to the Landpride (maybe it's a Rankin? bought it at my local Kubota dealer years ago) I have on my B7800. I cannot imagine anything other than something like these to do what I've done. I've literally dug in an outer tooth into huge logs and spun them around. The forces were once too much and the tooth bar let loose: it isn't bolted through, but it holds on like no-one's business; I had to beat the snot out of that bar to straighten it back out. With as abusive as I've been I am doubtful that a PTB would have survived; but, for those folks who aren't as abusive as I am I'm sure that they're great.

I would definitely go with a tooth bar. I am not sure which one. I have a regular one bought from Bobcat. It is indestructible. It will not turn your tractor into an unstoppable digging machine.

I have had very good luck with my Piranha. Even with my little 22-hp tractor I have dug under small trees and cut the roots off and lifted them out of the ground. Blackberry vines, gone. Honeysuckle, gone. Small trees and bushes, gone. Having praised the Piranha I have never used a tooth bar. I see them as more for digging holes. The Piranha is for cutting things off below ground level. Depends on what you want to do.

Never found much use for the toothbar I had JD put on the 4010. Used it exactly one time. Found it intimidating to have to carefully walk around it in the garage. Was off, mostly.
