I am a newbie to both hydraulics and tractors. I just bought a Mahindra 2538 with back hoe, and was wondering what would be involved/what it would cost to add a hydraulic top link. I was thinking that there might be some sort of setup where you could plug the hydraulic lines into the valve for the top link when the back hoe is off. I was hoping there might be some sort of plug and play solution, or at least something easily adapted, but I'm not even sure where to look or what to look for.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

You should have a set of remotes installed on the tractor. Those can be set up to provide continuous fluid flow for your hoe, when it's on, and in and out controls for your hydraulic top link when you need it. Right now you likely have a set of hoses that the hoe connects to and when you take it off you connect these hoses together so you can operate your TPH.

Here's what the setup might look like. This tractor has two remotes with two sets of hoses. One set goes to the the top link.

Absolutely pay and plug and play. Any shop can set it up easily in an hour or so. Call your shop and get an estimate. Pretty simple. Not too expensive, depending on the tractor figure $400 for the remote kit and maybe a hundred for the top link for a Cat 1 or 2. Plus installation, of course.

The problem I have with hydraulics setting the depth/height of something is that you have to baby sit the setting. As the hyd heats up, in a closed loop where you are using the hyd cylinder set to a certain extension, it will increase in length whereas a ratchet or pin will stay where you put it. At one time I thought it was a great idea but found out later what I said and went back to the manual controls on 3 pt and implements.
