Ad Blockers

I've been running Adblock Plus for Safari on my MacBook Pro.

The problem I'm having is more and more websites are detecting the ad blocker and prompting me to turn it off, register, or purchase the premium version to go ad free.

My question is, does anyone know of an ad blocker that will run without being detected?

I do not. Much like the progression of any war and its weapons, this ad block and ad block detection and retaliation is just another form of warfare. Think of it as the development of tank technology and the development of anti-tank weapons. Strides and escalations are made on both sides and it seems that one or the other has the upper hand for a while, but new developments come along and change the balance of power. If a stealth anti-tank weapon (ad blocker) can be developed, I bet people would pay actual money for that.

I know I would.

See if you can find a script blocker rather than a basic ad (pop up or display) blocker for your system/browser...a script blocker blocks the root of the problem with ads and trackers etc...

I just close those pages and don't return.

There are ways for them to present ads without tracking you. All they have to do is present the ad as an image. I think they can make the image hyperlink to the advertiser without being blocked.

Today's web designers are **** bent on tracking cookies.

When the Steel Soldiers forum did their upgrade they installed a pop-up nagging you to turn off the addblock. I just stopped visiting the forum.

For news sites I only go to yahoo news. I haven't hit any nag links from there. 70% of the news links on Google have an adblock nag or restriction.

I run both uBlock Origin and also Adblock Plus, and if one of those pop-ups pop-up; Try "Block Element" on ABP (custom filter those detectors) The trick is to hover over the entire Ad and not just parts of it. You click on "Block Element"; use the mouse to hover over the ad you want to block (it highlight sections of it, you want to get the edge to highlight all of it)

Like the video that plays here that detects that you are not logged into TBN. Blocked that one...

I also just leave the web page if it requires me to disable my ad blocker or sign up for something.

They can kiss my hiney. There's nothing on the internet I need that badly.

My most immediate issue is with Yahoo email. This is my main email for years now mostly due to the fact that in those times, all I had available for internet was a cell based system and the cell provider did not provide an email addy. Yahoo then was a good choice.

The issue is, Verizon has pretty much locked down Yahoo mail. I have the option to sign up for ad free for a price, allow ads, or I can click a link that takes me to basic email that is a pain to use.

It will take a while while I sit down and identify all legitimate business that I have given my Yahoo email to and change it over to my email through my ISP. Then, I'll be done with Yahoo.

Something else I've tried is to use my ISP email client to retrieve my Yahoo emails so I can read them in that. I'm having problems with the setup though. If someone has the correct incoming and outgoing settings for Yahoo mail (POP, SMTP etc) to put into my email client I'd appreciate it. I'm guessing though Verizon has Yahoo locked down pretty tight.

??? I have Verizon and Yahoo email also. I don't get ads with my email. This was odd enough that I just went and checked. I run on an iPhone 7 using ios 13.3, I've had my yahoo account for a very long time as well. I have gotten messages to "upgrade" to the Yahoo app, but haven't seen any reason to since my email works just fine as it is. Maybe I'm just running the "basic email that is a pain to use" and don't know any better. I'll have to remember to ask my kids about it.
