Tractor
John Deere 755, and Kubota U10
I have been looking and trying to justify a tractor for a couple months. My preferance is a b21 tlb, I like the commercial mindset. Fitting through a 48" gate is one of my specs, according to Kubota the B21 rear tread is 41" and I noticed a new one the other night and stopped to measure the rear tire width, and was suprised to find it 53". I know on some tractors the rear axel expands, is this the case on the B21? what is the real minimum width.
Thanks Chuck

Hi,

I like the commercial mindset.

Not sure what the commercial mindset is, but I can identify with that kind of thinking, if it means heavy duty.

My B2910 is about 54" wide at the rear tires, and is about the same size as the B21.

If I remember right, the B21 loader does not come off, so that could be an issue if you want to mow. Also, I want to think that the PTO HP is pretty low, as compared to my B2910. I guess that is because the hydraulics are stronger.

The B21 is a great and very strong tractor for it size, but seems to be designed more for commercial duty than general duty. I am pretty happy with my B2910 for home use and would not trade it for a B21 if I had that opportunity, ESPECIALLY if it were to be my only tractor, to be used for finish mowing and other chores.

Now if the main need was for hard use, and perhaps not for mowing, maybe I would think differently.

You will have to go pretty small to get a tractor pass through a 48" wide gate. You might have to enter sub compact territory to accomplish that.

Or...you might just replace that gate with a slightly wider one and get a workhorse tractor (relatively speaking). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't worry, even the "non commercial" tractors are are quite durable... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I’ll check mine tonight for you if you still need it. It will not fit a 48” gate, the rear tire setting is not expandable and the loader is not removable. From memory 54” at the rear is correct but I can’t remember if the bucket is wider.

My little old B7100 with loader mounted will go through a 48" gate. You might check into the narrow models in the B series -- the B7510DTN or something like that -- made specifically for work in narrow nursery aisles and such. Be careful about tipping the thing over, though, especially if you put a loader on it.

My suspicions are correct, I'll have to move to something else. I sat on the B21 and BX 23 sitting next to each other and really liked the B21. OK 48", to get into customers back yards, My sons work with a landscaper/contractor who will rent me and the tractor thus deferring some of the cost. I may also do some snow blowing. My property (5 ac) is hilly with a seasonal creek to cross (ie ditch) I don't think a bx23 will make it, so I'll have to dig a crossing. Mowing the little i do would be nice on the bx 23 (I use sheep in the lower field). I heard something about low ground clearance and a part that sticks down and can get broken off on the bx 23, I guess that is what worries me. Planning for a FEL, BH and tiller. I have a small disk and single tine sod buster left by the former owners. I rented a terramite #5? BH about 25 HP and barrowed an old 15 HP Ikea from a neighbor. thats my experience level, but I did learn how fast any tractor moves dirt! Thanks for the help, any more advice would be appriciated. I'm trying to decide what to replace my FEL equipped B7100 with because it's not very stable on my hill. As noted above, it's 48" wide. My hill is typically about a 3 or 4 in 12 slope. With the small size tractors, I think I'd look for the heaviest ones out there for loader work in your situation. Mine comes in around 1250 lb. with the loader on, and the loader has a lift of 500. Going down or across the slope, keep that load just high enough to clear the snakes! A backhoe boom in travel position will probably not help stability due to the extra weight up high, so plan on at least the box blade or a loaded ballast box on the back when doing loader work.

Hi,
I'm a new member that has a B7500 with the outside rear wheel set at 49" and they can be moved in quite a bit.
The bucket width outside is 46 1/2". Hope that helped!
