2 Part question:

Is the advertised turning radius via Tractor Data accurate?

What is the difference between using a rear brake to help turn versus not using a brake in regards to total turning radius?

The reason for the question- I am looking at moving to acreage and putting up a new barn. I plan to keep ALL equipment & tractors inside. Trying to plan size of barn to manuever to attach/detach various implements. Guessing 40-44 x 80 size.
First 40ish feet of length to be workshop with vehicle lift. Rest of length for equipment storage

Tractor- CUT size, approx 10-12 feet long, SCUT- 18 HP size, BCS 2 wheel tractor

Auxillary equipment- bushhog, pallet forks, rotary tiller, power harrow, grapple

Thanks, Ron

Use of steering brakes can pivot the tractor on the contact point of that single wheel. Any implement attached to the tractor will swing in the arc based on it's length. AT DOUBLE THE FORWARD TRAVEL SPEED due to the differential.

Also, Steering brake turning can rip the front tires right off the wheels they are mounted on when the inflation pressure is low. Ask me how I know? 'No fun when you are in the woods with a wheel filled with mud, stones and litter.!

G'day Mate... if you build your barn with a concrete floor, then you won't have to manoeuvre to attach/detach your implements. Put all of your implements/attachments on their own wheeled pallets and simply roll them into position.

I use the small and large castor dollies from Harbor Freight under most things in my barn. I made a large wheeled frame for my 7' tiller, and everything else gets 1 - 4 dollies for storage and ease of moving. Even my BCS tiller and snow blower are on dollies. I keep the center of my barn open to move tractors in and out, and then roll all implements out from storage along the sides (some stacked several deep). I even have my kerosene heaters on dollies. Everything can be rearranged by hand with ease, within minutes.

All of my attachments are on 2 by wood dollies. Got the castors from Surplus Center.

There are a number of threads here describing various types of dollies for better equipment storage. One showing mine is here
