Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum and I have an unusual problem. I use a Craftsman 14.5 H.P lawn tractor to mow an acre of uneven terrain. The jostling really takes a toll on my back. Does anyone know of a seat that can smooth out the bouncing? Right now my only fix is to mow at a slow speed which takes forever.
Alternately, which mfr. makes the smoothest riding tractor? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Welcome to TBN. Can't help you with the seat. My 75 year old neighbor has back problems and bought a Ferris that he likes really well. Ferris mowers have suspension on them. It's a zero turn and not a lawn tractor.

Not long ago there was a discussion in the Yanmar section about adding springs to the bottoms of tractor seats to cushion the ride. They talked about several different springs and methods of attachments. You might look through what they had to offer.

If you have enough room to fit-take a wheelbarrow tire off the metal wheel. Leave the tube inside the tire and inflate it to about 10 pounds. Put the tire and tube under your seat to act as a shock cushion. If it's too soft, add more air. Too hard, let some air out. Easiest way to hold it in place is zip ties.
This was suggested on a landscaping forum. I tried it on my Hustler zero turn and it worked fine.

Another option is to upgrade your seat. Michigan seats are OEM on lots of high end mowers. They have an adjustable suspension that really helps.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I couldn't acknowledge sooner because of a computer/grandson problem. The wheelbarrow & tube sounds promising. It may also help my piles. I dont really need a wheelbarrow anyways. The wife is very strong! Thanks again everyone1
