Mahindra 2810
Hi all, I am about to buy a property that is coming with a Mahindra 2810. The acronyms are enough to make one's head spin and I need some help. I have never operated (Hardly even sat in the seat at local fairs and 4H shows) a tractor and know little about them. I unfortunately don't even know what year it is and if it is a HST model or a shuttle shift (I think I am explaining that correctly) and the seller is unable to provide that info nor demo how it works (don't ask, it is complicated). So, how can I find out if it is an HST or shuttle shift? It has a lever on the left side of the column for F-N-R, a throttle lever on the right side of the column, and a 12F and 12R selector on the right fender. So I am assuming from this that it is a shuttle shift. What is the layout of the three to four pedals on the floor? I think I have figured out that the left pedal is a clutch, and the two side by sides on the right that are linkable are the left and right brake. How do I engage or disengage the PTO? IT is currently parked nose in to a three walled shed with what looks like a 5ft finish mower attached. What is the starting sequence for this tractor? DO you have to warm the glow plugs? Where should the throttle be? It has 851 hours on it, what kind of maintenance should I do (i figured I would change the motor oil, filter, fuel filter(s), should I worry about gear axle oil or the hydrolic fluid)? I don't know how long it has been sitting, I did hit the emergency flashers on and bulbs lit up strongly, so I don't think the battery is completely drained. It will be coming with 3 other implements, a tiller, disc/harrow and front end loader, so I will tackle those at a later point. Let's get the lawn mowed first!

Thanks, I am a very mechanical person, not unafraid to tackle anything and quite competent in driving something with a manual tranny.

It is a shuttle shift.
The left peddle is the clutch.
The linked peddles are the left/right brakes.
There should be a foot throttle peddle on the right. And a hand throttle on the right of the steering column.
Not familiar with that paticular tractor, so I can't help with the PTO or start sequence.

If you have a Mahindra dealer close, go see them. I'm sure they would be willing and able to answer your questions. If not, contact Mahindra, explain the situation and ask for a copy of the owners manual.

Plus one on this advice. Tell the dealer just what you stated in your post and that you need a good dealer for filters, parts, implements etc. and the dealer should be more than happy to help.

Yup, already read these and book marked them and actually have to do the adjustment on the throttle. Thanks for the excellent write ups!

by the way, since you one, do you have the hst or the SS? Do you have to clutch when going from F to R? Do you have to clutch when shifting gears?

Thanks!

I have the shuttle shift. yeah you have to use the clutch. The shuttle shift (the F/R on the colomn) and the gear shift (gears 1-4) are synchronized. the range selector (L-M-H) is not syncro'd, so you have to come to a stop to change that one. Same with the 4wd, you have to come to a stop.
