New holland 3930
I was talking to this guy who works on and restores tractors and I mentioned to him that I have a new holland 3930. He asked me what year it was and I told him it was a 1999 model with about 800 hours on it.

He immediately said that I better watch out and if I hear any strange knocks in the engine that I better shut it down immediately because the later year new holland 3930's had something wrong with the rings, or sleeves or Pistons or something that can cause an engine failure that will require a lot of money to repair. He said if I shut down the engine immediately it will cause less damage and possibly a lower cost to repair.

Does anyone know what he is talking about and whether or not this is true? If there is something to this, is it something that I need to be worried about on a tractor with only 800 hours on it?

Thanks

Sounds like green tractor owner BS to me.

The engines in th xx00 models through the xx30 series were pretty bulletproof in my opinion.

Sounds like BS to me. Mine has been run hard for lots of hours and still going strong. Great tractors.

I've got close to 3K hours on a 4610 SU, one generation earlier than the 30 series. Very little blow by and uses very little oil. Some of the earlier 10 series had intermittent issues with cavitation remedied by Ford with a block design change.

Some of the later 30 series units incorporated a turbo to meet emissions. I am not aware of any endemic issues with those units. The 30 series Fords, IMHO, are some of the best utility tractors ever made by any manufacturer.

If you hear a strange knock in any engine you should shut it down, regardless of paint color.
But good luck hearing a strange knock in a 3930 diesel, for starters its a bulletproof engine and by the time a strange knock would be loud enough to hear it would probably be rebuild time anyway.
