Monday morning- Noticed a car down in the ditch after having slid off the dirt road, practically right out front of my house. A woman was standing outside the car while a man in a yellow Dodge 4x4 pickup was working on hooking a chain to it. LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR TRACTORMAN. With coffee cup in hand, I drive the tractor down to the scene. Turns out the guy is the woman's brother and lived just a few streets over from me. The woman (about 20) states she was doing 35 and the car just slid off the road. Translation: 50 mph plus I'm thinking. I ask the guy if he needs any help. He's friendly enough but says he just about has it hooked to pull with his truck. The car is a taurus I believe, the front bumper is touching the mud and the tires are 3/4 sunk into the muck, plus it's a 5 foot climb back to the road. I watch as he jumps in the truck with her in the car and starts pulling...Nothing moves, the pickup's front tires are spinning and the back ones are planted and not moving. Finally he realizes it won't work. "Let's try the tractor" I say. "Do you really think that will pull it?" he asks. I say yes I think it will. He moves the pickup out of the way, I pull the tractor up, hook up, and without the tractor even blinking, it pulls the car up onto the road. He thanks me and offer's payment, which I decline, UNTIL he mentions he has a 2wd Case 580 and if I ever need any stumps removed.."Well, it just so happens!" I mention. So, he's supposed to come out this week and take out 5 stumps in the back for me.
Saturday: A family member 2 miles down the road calls and asks if I can come with my tractor, her boyfriend had been putting in a gravel driveway for her with a small bobcat but now the bobcat was stuck halfway into a ditch (Again with the ditches) and had apparently blown the motor. Another job for TRACTORMAN! I take the 10 minute drive down and see three guys standing around scratching their heads on what to do. ALready a chevy pickup had failed to pull the bobcat out and tore up the yard trying. The boyfriend points out that the bobcat weights 2000 lb.s and the wheels are locked but hopes I can pull it up enough where he can work on the motor. I hook the chains onto the bucket and rather than pull, lift the tractor nearly off the ground, the tires are all clear but the bucket drags as I pull it up out of the ditch and set it on the driveway for him.
SUNDAY: ANother call from relative, her boyfriend winched the bobcat onto a trailer, and now the trailer and his truck are stuck in the mud, can I bring the tractor back. Back down I go, pull the truck/trailer thru the yard back to the main road. Then I notice the gravel road he was putting in in the back by a new pole barn had not been completed. There's a large pile of 3-4" rock for underneath and another pile of crushed gravel for the top. I mention to the boyfriend that I'm curious to see how the bucket handles the large stone. He says with the size of my bucket I'd have trouble handling the big stones. HaHaHa. Tractor easily went into the pile and came out with a full load of the stuff. I finished off the driveway in less than an hour. By this time 4 neighbors had wandered over to watch me work(Slow day in the county I guess /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif). Afterward they all gathered around the tractor and admired it's power and how well I handled it. (Didn't mention to them how simple it is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Then I headed off into the sunset, awaiting the next job for TRACTORMAN! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Course, I need to start charging $$$
