This is we added to the trailer to prevent the rear end dropping while loading. It was made from steel laying around and is yet to be painted.

They are built from 3" and 2" steel square tubing. The hanger is made from a 4" piece of the 3" tubing with one side cut off and two holes drilled through. The leg is made from a piece of the 2" tubing. A 1/4" thick 2" wide strap hinge was welded to the leg. A 1/2" bolt goes through the front hole on the hanger and the strap hinge. When the leg is vertical the top of the leg rests squarly against the inside of the hanger. The rear hole in the hanger matches up with a hole in the leg and is pinned with an additional 1/2" bolt when the leg is vertical. We made another hanger from a 2" piece of the 3" tubing and placed it at the front of the leg when it is up. An additional hole was drilled through the front hanger and leg. A 1/2" bolt with a pin through it is used to hold the leg forward when not in use. Building and installing both legs took about 2 hours.

The side sliced off the 3" tubing to make the front hanger is welded onto the bottom of the 2" tubing to provide a flat foot for the leg.

Don't know if you saw it or not, but I started a thread about this very same subject maybe a week or so ago. The link is pasted below. Your idea is good but I dislike one thing, there is no pad on the foot and it could sink into soft ground when you (un)load something really heavy. Unless you plan to permanently weld a pad onto the bottom of the stand, I would carry a couple small pieces (maybe 6"x6"x1/4" thick) of steel and lay on the ground under the jackstand before you let it down. Just a thought....

The other problem is if you have a 6,000# truck on the trailer the suspension will compress and you will never get it down. When I use my adjustable ones on my trailer I have to leave it 2" off the ground when loading or it will bind.

I know the bottom of the leg appears to be on the ground in the picture but it is actually somewhere between 1.5" and 2" off the ground while touching the grass.

I will report back on how it works. If I have problems with it hanging up then I will cut them off and drill a piece of 3" tubing to slip over the outside and allow length adjustment.

If it does hang up I am planning to back up to free it.

I take my trailer on/off islands on a regular basis. Ferry ramps make steep angles at low tides. Your style built on the bottom like that would be a big problem dragging on the decks/ramps of the ferry for me.
