I had my starter go out on a '93 455. Went to price one out today. After I got up off the floor she told me again that is was $330. Is that normal. Mt truck and Van starters are only $129, my boat was only $219.

It's in the ballpark.
You may begin to find things that were already known about this 'free' tractor. But you could consider you have about $4000 to work with, being as it was worth that if in good used running condition.
Not sure if it might be possible to find a used starter in a Deere boneyard somewhere that is hopefully near you.

Yes, I have consider the initial cost of the tractor. Spending $6-700 dollars to get her all ready to go is only a small investment based on it's value. For now I have used fiberglass to fix the side panels and hood to make them function as designed. I left my disk at home that has the pictures. I will bring tomorrow and post up. I did spend about a total of 4 hours just cleaning.

Take your old starter to an auto electrical shop and let them work it over . That will save you a lot of money.

Yes, I found that out today. I took the old on off after I got home tonight. I will take it to a shop tomorrow to get a price to rebuild or replace with a rebuilt one.
