I have a L5030 with 75 hours. I was shredding in pretty thick yaupon and smelled something hot and a little steamy but the temperature gauge showed OK. I thought it might be the slip clutch on the shredder. A little while later smoke and a very pungent burnt odor came from the relief tube under the tractor. I stopped and then noticed the front axle was wet. I then noticed a small black hose was hanging down next to the fuel filter. I had dumped the radiator but the temp gauge did not record it . The engine was hotter than a pistol. I called the dealer who said walk away and come back in 3 hours, fill radiator and start. I did that and it sounded ok. I changed oil and filter and used it about 20 minutes. I then had the dealer pick it up and run test. Compression and HP test showed OK. I will change oil again very soon because it still smells burnt. What damage do all of you think I may have done and what should I look for? Any advice will be appreciated. Also your tractor in the brush you might want to protect that hose. I wonder why Kubota doesn't have an engine shut down when the engine oil gets to hot?

I am still learning with mine but I thought a hot warning light would come on at the intel panel?

I think you are absoulutely right in changing the "cooked" oil. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Do it once or twice more and I think you'll be alright.

If you have compression, and it didn't lock up the engine you should be out of the woods. I'd definitely have the temperature sender replaced. To prevent future mishaps.

The dealer didn't offer any explanation for the intellipanel not showing the temp. rise? I'd question him........J

how mutch fluid had it puked? was the temp gauge moving at all? if the overflow tank was full cold then it is nornal to loose some fluid when warm, to overflow tank is to catch the fluid that is expelled when hot and pull back from when cold. that's why they almost asways hae a full cold level.(look at your cars)

The idiot light did come on but it was a bright sunny day and I did not see it until I saw smoke and stopped. My dealer said the temp gauge has to have fluid moving to work. I dumped all fluid out when the hose came off. Thanks for the reply.

The light did come on but it was a bright sunny day and the light was not apparent until I stopped. I may have dodged that bullet..........

The sending unit has to have coolant touching it to register on the temperature gauge. If all the fluid was lost it will not show to be overheating.

I have a 4 day old new L5030 and I can see how you could miss the lights! They are very dim in sunlight. I may try putting some polarizing film or a shade an inch or two over the panel to help.

Where is this hose located?
