For a few months coyotes have been in our area. In the wee hours of the morning they howl and try to lure our little 26 lb. puggle out for a snack. I have not had much luck going out at night with a red light and shooting them.
So 3 weeks ago I bought a spring loaded trap and set it the woods about 500 yards away where we have seen them cross. Twice the trap has been tripped, but no coyote.
Last night our dog barked all night at something but we couldn't see it. She stays in the garage and has a doggie door so she can go outside. About 8 AM my wife looked out the window and said the dog looked like she was barking at the house outside. So I grabbed the shotgun and walked out to the garage and saw the shadow of the coyote outside the doggie door. I don't think that he had quite figured out how the door worked yet and he didn't notice me because our dog was barking like crazy. I quietly poked the gun out the doggie door and from 6'' away the 12 gauge with OO buckshot splattered his walnut size brain. I then noticed that he had my trap on one of his front legs. That probably slowed it down enough that it couldn't catch out little dog.
The coyote had a terrible odor to it. I wanted to make quick work of burying it so I threw it in the bucket of the Kubota. Drove out to the other end of the property and covered it up with dirt.
