My 1531 got it's first real snow test about a week ago when we received approximately 22 inches of snow. It plowed right through the drifts and made very quick work of cleaning my driveway and taking care of the neighbors drive as well. I am very pleased with this tractor. It has been very impressive in everything I've thrown at it. I've used the MF backhoe attachment to plant several 12' trees, remove numerous stumps, and to dig footers for a 30' retaining wall. It performed every task easily. I've used the loader to dig out for several patios, move tons and tons of soil & gravel. It did all of this effortlessly. I've cleared wooded areas, graded, aerated, bush hogged. In every case, this tractor has been outstanding. It currently has about 120 hours on it. The only problems I've had are a small hydraulic hose leak at the loader joystick and the cruise control had to be tightened.

By chance do you run rear chains?

Hi, Thomas. I don't run chains. The tractor has R4 tires which apparently are good enough. I've had friends complain about their R4's and some even switched to ag tires. The recent 22 inch snowfall was close to a record for the area where I live and the tractor performed very well without chains.

I have a 1540 and this is my first winter with it, and I think I may have to invest in a set of chains. I have a fairly steep section of driveway that can get pretty slick. We got 8-10 inches of snow Christmas Eve and I had a heck of a time just getting back up to the top. I would go as far as I could and then use the bucket to drag the snow down the hill till I got enough cleaned out to climb the hill.
I took a load of manure out to the pasture and hit some deep snow and had to back up to get around it.
So, its looking like a set of chains will be needed to get around this hilly farm.
I had some for my Ford and they were a huge help.
