Ok all im a few wakes from baling and i'm trying to figure out this New Holland equipment you all helped me buy last fall and winter. So i guess first questions would be:

1. I got the NH 269 Baler up and running no problems my question for this is what is the distance from the back of the 2nd bale chute to the front of flat bed wagon i'm pulling to be? I'm just dropping them on the wagon for this year to see how this all goes. I'm guess I want it a few inches away from what i've saw in pictures but just not sure, hoping you all can get me a little closer so lets on off tractor and down time once i get full swing into this shortly. I need to fab some adjustments in the baler tongue so i can shorten it up and bring wagon closer to baler chute i'm assuming. That's at welding shop now cause it was bent and need a few holes drilled in to shorten up.

2. Also my NH 56 Rake. I'm curious what the one Lever adjustments is on the main frame. It appears it's wedge in there as low as it can go. I'm not talk the 2 up top that you adjust height for for the left and right side. Just the the one that appears to low or raise the whole thing. Is this important the i should free it up so i can make adjusments? I only have a parts manual for rake.

I'm thinking that's my two main questions for now i always have a crap load it seems. Thanks a lot of guys for your continued support.

From reading your post, it sounds like you are baling alone with no-one on the wagon. If that is how you are doing it, you have my sympathy.

As for the baler chute, I try to get it as close as I can without it hitting the wagon. The biggest thing to watch out for is when you make a sharp turn on a hill - the chute can catch the corner of the wagon and bad things can happen. If you need a measurement, I suppose mine is 12" from the wagon and slightly higher when sitting on level ground. I try to set the last section on a slight upward angle, so if it hits the wagon it usually folds.

You will want a few inches of clearance at all times. I would try turning as hard as you can to ensure you clear the corner of the trailer on a tight turn to grab that last windrow. Good luck on baling without a kicker or a helper in the wagon, I don't recommend it.

Can you post a picture? We have a NH 256 (I think its a 256 anyways) and it only has 3 controls: Left height, Right height and the gearbox enable/disable lever.

I will have ssomeone on the wagon if noti will just be droppin them on the ground. I will try n post a pic this afternoon. Once i get money to get a bigger/heavier tractor i may put the nh 53A kicker on.

A bigger tractor? Arent you running a DK50? We run a NH baler (I think it is also a 269) that has a kicker with a Kubota L3830 and it handles it just fine. The kicker loads the tractor less than the plunger does due to the flywheel on the kicker.
If you have the kicker, I would put it on. That will make your stacker's life much easier as you can drop the bales at the same level as them rather than them having to lift the bales up.
We also have a hydraulic ram to angle the kicker in relation to the wagon so that I can drop the bales in one side or the other of the wagon.

Here are a couple of pictures of my set up. This is a NH315 baler. Two of my wagons have an adjustable draw bar so If too close or too far away I can adjust it.

I'm assuming that the adjustments for a 56 and a 256 are the same. Take a look at the picture. I think you are talking about the adjustment that is at the left end of the yellow frame below the height adjustment.

If this is it it is to adjust the foward angle or lean of the rake. Maybe attack angle explains it better. If you look at the rake from the end you will see that the rake leans foward in the verticle plane. This is the adjustment for that lean.

1. If using the bale chute it will catrch the wagon and break if you make a very sharp left turn - usually of the backswath. It will also catch the front of the wagon and lift it when going through little gullies. I baled with this system for 30 years or so.

2. The adjustment on the rake you are refering to makes a tighter windrow when all the way down. Fluffy when all the way up. At least that is the plan. Obviously it dries better when fluffed and the wind will blow it around the field also. That's the good and bad! We and everyone I know here abouts always has it all the way up.

Good to know. Will have to adjust ours, IIRC, it is about 3/4 of the way up.

And you will be getting on the wagon every 5 - 6 bales to stack if there is noone back there.
