A COUPLE LEAKING SEALS, BUT STILL NO COMPLAINTS.

Just an update on my 1997 Mahindra 485 DI.

I now have 1037 hours on my tractor. I was cutting a field for hay yesterday and noticed it was real wet around my pto shaft. Well, I got to looking and I saw that it was coming from the seal around the shaft. My buddy said that it wasn't hard to replace at all. He will do it this week.

I have another seal leaking. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the older model Mahindras, but mine has a gear range selection lever on the bottom left side of the transmission housing. It is for the PTO gear selection (540 and 1000) rpms. That seal is leaking where the shaft comes out the transmission. WILL THAT BE HARD TO CHANGE?

Also, is there any dealers on here that can get me an owners manual and service manual for my tractor? If so, what are the prices?

Call up a dealer for your manuals. That's what I did for my '02 6000 4wd. Was 30$ for the owner's manual and 60$ for the service manual. Service manual is really nice.

It's a shame you don't have an owners manual. If I had one, I'd scan you a copy. Did you buy it used and wasn't provided with one?
My 2810HST came with the owners manual but I plan to order a service manual and I understand that a parts list manual/catalog compliment to it is well advised.

I paid about $100.00 for the service and parts manual . The dealer had them shipped right from Mahindra to my door.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

My Mahindra 485 now has 1163 hrs on it. The power steering booster cylinder (under the front of the tractor to the left) is leaking pretty good right now. It started at about 1153 hrs. Time to get it rebuilt. Dealer said if I brought the cylinder to them, parts and labor would be about $90.00......I don't think thats bad at all in my opinion. Before I called them, I thought I was going to be paying around $300.00-$400.00.....I didn't know.

I adjusted (maintenance) the clutch alittle today. Gears don't grind anymore.

Thats it as far as I can remember.

So in the 284 hrs. that I've put on the tractor, the only problems i've had that hasn't been my fault is a PTO shaft seal, a PTO speed selector lever seal (which I haven't changed yet), a charge light indicator bulb, blown headlight bulb, rear work light bulb, power steering booster cylinder, a battery, and the draft control don't work.(Position control lever moves when draft control lever moves unless I have the draft control lever "locked" in the down position. A little WD40 might fix it, I've never worried about it though.)

I STILL HAVE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT MY MAHINDRA TRACTOR. I have done a lot of work with this machine. It Is by far the best purchase I've ever made. I'm 100% satisfied. I sure hope Mahindra is here to stay........now that I think about it, its time for another wax job!
