I decided to straighten my logging road which required moving a large boulder.
I grabbed it with the grapple and due to its weight kept it low, so low in fact that it was out of my view.
I proceeded to drive ahead until I felt and heard a crunch from underneath the tractor. I stopped and reversed to find the boulder had slipped from the grapple and I had run into it damaging the oil pan and drive shaft. It doesn’t appear to have holed the pan as I haven’t seen or felt any leaking from it but I noticed a slight drip from where the drive shaft exits the transmission.
I will be monitoring it for now and will consider my future options 😱

I had the same experience with a bale fork being gripped in the teeth of a 4-in-1 bucket. When it came loose I ran over it and the spike stabbed the grease seal on the bottom of the left front bevel gear which dumped front axle lubricant all over the field. No serious damage but it was not your best day was it?

No one died, that’s a plus. No one got hurt, another plus. The tractor still runs, another plus. That’s all I got other than it looks bad.

Yes, not a great day but the M is still functioning and I still have a lot of logging left to do till the weather shuts me down. Then it’ll be time for snow plowing.😳

Glad the damage wasn’t more serious!

What damage happened to the driveshaft? Were you referring to the small leak? Perhaps the leak’s been there for a while and you only noticed it because you looked for damage that the boulder might have caused…

I guess the only solution if you’re carrying something that might fall out without you seeing it, is it might be better to run in reverse! 😀

We all make boneheaded mistakes now and again…..
It’s called “living life”!
