My dad called Saturday afternoon and said he had just picked up his tractor from the shop and had some questions about it. During the time that it took to drive the 6 miles to his house, he had a slight accident. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

From your tone and the lack of blood on the ground I assume he was OK.....??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifI hope no one was injured during this. I'm trying to figure out what happened. Seems like it rolled over, but from the position, it either rolled up the wall, or off a trailer then off the wall. You gotta tell me, it's driving me nuts.

Oh, if he doesn't want it anymore, can I have it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also, upside down, it looks like either a 6100 or 7100

He had the tractor unloaded about 10 minutes, had pulled it off of the trailer and picked up the piece of wood that was in the bucket (couldn't split it this winter). The wood was going in the "can't split" pile behind the house.

He ended up between the retaining wall and the camper (and under the tractor!) Had the camper not been there or had there been an attachment on the back, it could have been much worse. Only scrapes & bruises from the fall.

There are ruts in the yard and he caught them wrong. One of the first things on the to do list was to flip the tires to widen the track. That had to wait until after we got it back on all 4 tires. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

All in all, not a horribly expensive lesson. The hood, steering wheel, fender & seat are worse for the wear but usable, and the camper was not damaged (scraped the pinstripes off). My dad's statement was that he did not realize how unstable the B7100 would be in that situation.

This afternoon we did an "after accident" check where the rollover happened. The best that we could tell he hit the absolutely worst spot in the whole area, with a large hump on the high side & a large rut on the low side. Probably a 2 foot difference between the left & right side.

It is unbelievable how quickly an accident can happen.

He's fine, other than being shaken up. Nothing's flat around here, so now he's worried on where he can use the new toy. He does have quite a mess to clean up - most everything drains out pretty quickly when you turn the container upside down. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The bad part was that we didn't have enough equipment to immediately get the thing uprighted - my truck was on loan, my tractor is torn down for repair, and had to use his truck to move the camper. All told the tractor sat like this for about 2 hours.

It appears from the picture he had a heavy object in the bucket and no rear ballast. Regardless of wether anything is in the bucket or not you should have some rear ballast. As you both found out it can roll quite easily like this. The one rear tire comes up and unless your alert and quick to drop the bucket...boom...over you go. Glad nobody was seriously hurt.

Jeff--

What a shocking and sobering photo and story. I'm so glad your father's ok--the tale could have been mighty different. It's good to be reminded as you say how fast these things can happen. Although he'll undoubtedly use the loader in the future low and slow, given your hills and this very close escape I would sure respectfully suggest looking into retrofitting a ROPS on the Kubota. Whenever my tractor feels a little light on a corner I sure take comfort in having that big bar over my head.

Yep, there was no rear ballast. The B7100 is a replacement for his 9N that he just sold. He let all of the implements go with the Ford, so he had nothing to put on the back. If he had something on the 3 point (and assuming the tractor would have still flipped) he could have been injured badly. He basicaly ended up under the tractor, head to the rear with his legs under the rear tire.

As far as the weight in the bucket, I picked it up after we flipped the tractor back over - it probably only weighed about 60 or 70 pounds.

One of the projects for the tractor is to get a ROPS installed and to build a weight box. This was discussed even before the tractor was rolled...

All in all a bad way to start on his "new" tractor.

Boy Jeff, that is a scary one and I sure am glad your Dad is OK. As you know I can relate to the terrain in your area. I would build a ROPS, set the tires as wide as possible, get some weight on the 3pt and fill the rear tires with ballast. The ballast helped my tractor enormously on our slopes.

Normally I have the backhoe on when working dirt. One day I removed the backhoe for more clearance when I needed to move an already dug pile with loader. I had a good number of hours on the tractor and thought I understood the limitation pretty well. Got to working to fast and the next thing I knew one of the rear tires was way off the ground and my eyes were opened farther than I knew was possible. All worked out but I was very close to playing pin ball with the trees as I tumbled down the mountain. You are right, it can happen very fast.
