990 collar shift?

Anybody got any feed back on the collar shift setup. It must be more intricate than an ordinary sliding gear. Has there been any problems? I ask because I don't find any 990 tractors sitting on the JD dealer lots and they don't seem to push them. Everything is 790 or 4000 ten series.
