I am looking to install a diverter valve on my dads tractor so he can operate a angle plow on his loader arms. What is the best way to accomplish this. Go with deere or make my own kit? Are there other kits out there desides deere? Thanks Dave

First, there is a difference between a 3rd SCV and a diverter...Which one do you really want?

The 3rd SCV, or commonly called rear remote, operates independent of everything else, it can also be use to operate other things like a hydraulic top link, or angling a rear blade...it is usually lever operated and mounted on the ROPS or fender.Long hoses would run from the new valve under the tractor, up the loader mast then down the loader arms.

The diverter is hooked to the Dump/Curl circuit of the loader, and when a button is pushed the left/right motion of the joystick now angles the plow instead of the dump/curl cylinders.

One other option is a "true 3rd function" solenoid valve that will angle the plow with a rocker switch.

WR Long has both a diverter kit and a 3rd function kit if you don't want to source a the part yourself...they include everything you will need. You usually do not save much money buying all the parts yourself over the price of their kits.

I had Fasse kit on my 990 and moved it to my 4520. Not cheap but very nice.

How does this work when you have to reconnect the hoses to the dump/curl function? I am wondering if it will be hard to reconnect once a load has been put on the cylinders. This is the biggest reason that I am installing a diverter.

You are correct, I am looking for the diverter not a whole new valve. Any idea what the kit cost from WR Long? The Fasse kits from my dealer are about $700.00. I think that I can build my own a lot cheaper then that. I have even thought about putting in a manual diverter. Any other input would be greatly apprectiated. Thanks Dave

The WR Long kit's I have heard are anywhere from $500 and up depending on the application. Cal them and talk to Nelson, SUPER good people to deal with.

When I added mine, I thought I could beat the price also-but it did not happen. You NEVER get all the parts you need at one shot so you are waiting and paying shipping multiple times...then with the cost of having hoses made, finding the proper fittings (JD uses some oddballs sometimes), a proper handle for the joystick, making brackets, and countless other little details you just don't end up saving anything.

Just the valve itself is $150-# 9-5117a is the popular one today from the Surplus Center.

You can search in the hydraulic forum a read for hours about diverters.

I just bought the two kits from JD. 3rd scv and the steel line kit that runs down the boom. Nice and easy to install and puts a set of lines to the back of the tractor. Probably get the Power Beyond kit too!
