\'98 1630, is it worth it?

I have the opportunity to purchase a '98 NH 1630 with a 7' Woods RFM for $9,800.00. Tractor has been garage kept, 400 Hrs.
I don't know a lot (only what I got from Tractordata.com) about the specifics on this tractor.
The person selling it tells me that it's priced 3-4K below market.
Anyone have any opinions on the price and or the tractor?
Thanks

Re: \'98 1630, is it worth it?

I have a 1630 and like the tractor very much, it has done everything that I have asked it to do. It will handle a sixty inch tiller without a problem in small areas, even tilled 40 acres with it last year. I have hyrdo, supersteer and 4 whl drive on it. You do show what kind of tranny is on the one that you are looking at, what types of jobs you plan on doing with it or the acreage that you plan to maintain.

Value on the tractor alone about from 10,800 to 12,400 in the gear drive.

Re: \'98 1630, is it worth it?

Thanks for the info (I knew I'd get some good info here).
I just spoke to the guy. It's got:
Hydro, Turf Tires (Guess I could change them out to R4s), PS,
Power Brakes (I didn't know they came with this), 4WD. He said he's changed the oil and filters every 50 hours and has the receipts.
I know you can get a FEL ($3,850 installed), but can you get a BH for it? If so, will it be a subframe?
I've got 5 acres, 3 in lawn and a little over 2 overgrown (need to bush hog twice a year) all gently rolling hills, nothing too steep.
I've got a 400' concrete driveway, so I need to move snow a few times a year (back blade?), Move 6 or 7 yards of mulch, dig some 5-6" trees and replant (BH) and move 5-10 tons of gravel for a parking pad for the Travel Trailer.
I'd also like to dig some footers for a 30x50 foot garage/barn in the future.
Do you guys think the 1630 can handle this?
Thanks,
Tom

Re: \'98 1630, is it worth it?

The 1630 will do all of what you are asking of it, except I do no know about the backhoe part. Backhoes are expensive for the tasks that you are thinking about. You may be better off hiring this work done or renting the equipment for these few tasks.

Re: \'98 1630, is it worth it?

I agree.. a quality backhoe and frame could run 4000-6000.. I'd rent one for less than that.

You could also get a very light duty 3pt one that uses no sub frame. Go as light duty as you can find to keep the stress on the tractor low. Digging and reach will be less.. but then price could be half of a mounted unit.

Otherwise.. sounds like the 1630 is suited fine.
