I changed both fuel filters and now it wont start. The fuel valves are turned back on. Has fuel from the motor filter just wont go into the injector lines. Any info would really help thanks

Did you fill the fuel filter canisters? Sounds like it might be air blocked.
The 970 is, IIRC, autobleeding, so it should start.

Thank you for the response. There is fuel in the filter canisters. filled right to the top. we did that with the little lever. We unscrewed the bolt a tad where the hose comes out the front filter and there is fuel squirting out that when we use the lever. It just doesn't go above that into the steel injector lines that go to the motor. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an air blockage some how. just dont know how to fix it. Sure don't want to take it to the John Deere dealer $$$

MY JD 870, 970,1070 manual states that the system is autobleeding like Roy said. But there is a fuel pump with a pump lever underneath the injector pump. As near as I can see it is there to suck fuel through the injector pump and pump it back to the fuel tank. Or you could do like I do when changing filters on my VW diesel. You attach a vacuum pump to the return line from the injector pump and suck the air our of the injector pump. That should be the function of the round pump with lever underneath the injector pump. Fuel pump.jpg Hopefully the vague image uploads.

If you make that image larger I tried to circle the round post fuel injector distributor pump with lever that is there to help manually prime the pump.

Yours may not have that same pump with lever. injector pump.gif

If you have the priming pump spend more time pumping the lever.

Next step is to break a line on the downstream side of the pump.

Are you sure the fuel shut-off solenoid is activating? Check the connection to be sure it didn't get accidently disconnected while changing the filter.

on my old 870 i had the manual fuel prime lever as described previously. just keep on pumping it.

My wife ran the tractor out of fuel a few times, and using this prime pump was the only way i ever got it started again
