955 Idle Speed

Hello,

My 955 idles at about 1500 rpm which seems high. Is that the correct speed?

Also, I need a service manual. Is the John Deere version the one to have or is another one like I&T usable.

On your second question consider looking at selectmanuals.com for a tech manual.

I'd go with the Deere manual if you can find one (try a dealer, but eBay is your best bet). I looked at an I&T manual when I had my old 670 (about 10 years ago). IMHO, they're about worthless.

As far as the idle RPM...I've always idled my tractors at about 1500 RPM. There sure isn't much increase in fuel consumption and it's easier on the main bearings. The only time I reduce that RPM is when I'm engaging the PTO (smoother engagement).
As far as what the factory sets the RPM at...probably just under 1000 RPM.
