I have a 950 John Deere with a 75 loader and a 8A back hoe on it. The tractor started cracking rear wheels a couple years ago and now the transmission case broke in two. has anyone out there had this happen. If so how can I prevent this from happening again short of not mounting the back hoe on the tractor again. I have used the back hoe less that 200 hrs. For those of you that do not know the Deere back hoes have a sub frame that mounts on the loader bracket.

There are some threads in which others have had the same problem.
I know little about the JD backhoe,but what I heard mostly when this damage cause its do to rough digging,also the tractor not setting level from others.
JD 855&955 also had this problem w/backhoe and the cure was to beef up the supports and dig easier.
Has your dealer offer any ideas.

Don't know if it has anything to do with your problem but years ago my Dad had a big JD and was considering getting a backhoe for it. His dealer said that he would not reccomend it. I don't know if that was out of concern for the tractor or not.

Ouch! I own a 950 set up exactly as you have yours. Mine has 1200 hours on it and I've had no problems so far. I'm a little scared now though after hearing about your problem. I tend to work it fairly hard from time to time clearing hedgerows etc. But...I'm careful not to drive too fast over rough terrain and I always make sure that the stabilizers are down fully before I start to dig. The hoe isn't strong enough to lift the front of the tractor while digging, so I'm suprised that your tranny case cracked. Rear rims cracking is common however. I bought a used 2010 Ind. with a hoe and that had a re-welded rim on the back. It would be a shame not to be able to continue using the hoe on your tractor. Check the subframe to make sure that it is alligned properly and just be sure to have the outriggers all the way down...lift the whole rear axle off the ground while you're digging just to be sure that there is no stress on the rear rims.
