here's a pic of an 8n diffy..
notice the casting seperates the ring gear area from the hyds section...
notice that the inspection covers are ahead of the ring gear compartment as well.
there is a small casting hole about an inch in diameter at the very top of that ring gear casting area that, if you removed the top cover that you could look down into and see a lil bit. if you were a crab and yer eyes were on stalks.. might be ok.. ditto witht he pto shaft hole... if you could stick yer eyes out on stalks and look in and up ya might see something. otherwise.. I'd pull left trumpet.. that way if you need to fix something.. you can remove chunk that side..
shop crane and laod leveler makes an easy way to lift the axle trumpet as an assembly with the axle and brakes and hub intact.. just pull the wheel and center, and then unbolt trumpet after supporting the casting... could have it off in 10-15 minutes if you work fast.. etc.. just a lil bit o linkage to disconnect..e tc..
