88 Ford 555B
I've recently purchased a 88 Ford 555B and a few fuses are blown as well as one is missing - wondering what fuse does what etc? Thanks

Yea - you're probably right but spending $100 right now to find out fuse sizes and positions seems a bit much. Does anyone know which fuse sizes go where and what they control? I got a schematic from a service manual but it contradicts what I was told by a New Holland parts rep. He said there are 2 7.5's, 1 15, 1 25, and 1 3 but wiring schematic says 2 3's, 2 7.5's, and 1 15..... anyone know for sure or where I can find out? Thanks.

I don't know about your 555B, but on my LB75B New Holland, the cover over the fuses has a fuse map on the back showing locations/values. Is it possible you have something similar on your 555B and just have not noticed it?

BTW: I don't think RickB is suggesting you spend $100 for fuse locations. I think as a professional, he is making a very sound suggestion that you buy an owner's manual and service manual for general use. I can tell you where a downloadable maintenance manual is for a 555C for $34.95, but I just don't know how close it would be to your 555B. I suspect the fuses would be very similar.

Color me as indifferent, but I can't get excited about helping someone who has the wherewithal to buy a fairly complex older piece of equipment and can't/won't invest $33 in a op manual download that might answer his immediate question, or $110 on Vol I of the service manual that certainly would. If I had the answers at my fingertips, or could answer off the top of my head, I probably would respond.

The price of admission for DIY repairs is having the info to do them correctly and efficiently.

A 555B and 555C are very different machines. The manuals are not interchangeable.

Thanks for the responses - unfortunately the fuse cover is missing. I did obtain a copy of the wiring schematic which shows fuse sizes and purposes but contradicts info given by a NewHolland dealer. I'd love to buy a service manual but I'm just about $100'd to death lately - I'm trying to take a break!! Anyhow - The one fuse the machine was missing is labeled (Cab Power) - what is that? Is that for an enclosed Cab? The schematic shows one fuse being Horn & RTD - what is RTD? Thanks

The fuse locations changed constantly during production. There was never a label on the cover, either. The most effective way to work on these was to remove the fuse panel, and match the wiring colors to the schematic. Ford would also print one schematic, and it would not show changes made during production.

Cab power is the circuit that would energize the relay in the top of the cab, turns on heater fan, wipers, dome light.
RTD is return to dig. There's a micro switch on the loader bucket linkage and an electromagnet on the control valve that would position the bucket to level after dumping.

Thanks -- Correct me if wrong but most of these fuses seem irrelavant for homeowner use? 1. Cab Power - this model doesn't have a cab, 2. Dome Light, 3. Turn Signal, 4. Horn & RTD, 5. Warning Lights - This one is certainly impotant but I plan on trying to install gauges also. I think I may just pick a fuse or just run power directly to battery for the floor switch? (15 amp?) Thanks again for the help.
