\'86 MF 1030

I'm not a tractor owner-yet but I'm looking at a '86 MF 1030 with 670 hours on the meter. I need to mow over 2 bumpy acres of grass/weeds in Southern Maryland and it takes forever on my Murray. The 1030 has good turf tires and a 2 year old 5' Sitrex side-discharge finish mower. The tractor seems to be in very good shape. The asking price is $6500 OBO. Machinerylink.com lists 3 different suggested prices for this year/model ranging from $5044 to $4048 and I've found new 5' Sitrex mowers for $1100-$1000. Any idea what a realistic price might be for this rig? 670 hours seems quite low for a tractor that's almost 20 years old. Are those meters often spoofed?

Re: \'86 MF 1030

Kibby, Usually a tractor regardless of age will hold its value depending on condition and hours. The one your looking at if in good mechanical condition is probably a fair price, but I would still see if they would take less /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gifbut that's just me. Also for me the condition of the sheet metal and paint would have a good bit of influence on my decesion as to the offer portion of the deal, but the price for tractor & mower sounds pretty descent. Add a rear blade for 200-250 and you can push snow, dirt ,drag driveways, etc. a tractor is a good tool to have in the work shop /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: \'86 MF 1030

Thanks, Nasty. The sheet metal and paint look pretty good to me. I counter-offered $5800 and he accepted. I put a down payment on it and hope to take delivery this week. I think we're both satisfied with the bargain. I've been thinking of getting a box blade for it and another blade for snow/dirt; my driveway can certainly use some help. Since its got turf tires (which I really need for its main use as a mower) I wonder if I should try to find some chains or even a set of wheels with ag tires.

Re: \'86 MF 1030

If it has 4wheel drive turfs will work just fine even in snow, that is depending on which turf tire you have? If it is the small v-block style and not the knob turf you might need chains.Tight tread pattern fills rather quickly with snow or mud.I guess you'll find out won't you.?? Congratulations and enjoy your purchase /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: \'86 MF 1030

Any idea where I can find an owners and parts manual for it? I can't find diddly on the MF website. There's a pedal on the right side that seems like you have to push it with your heel. What the heck does that do? Also, I'd like to re-route the exhaust under the frame instead of above the hood because there are so many tree limbs to avoid on my property. Is that doable and/or advisable?

Re: \'86 MF 1030

The pedal on the right side that you push with your heel is the differential lock. Have you tried your nearest MF dealer for ordering a manual? Agreed that the whole AGCO website sucks, including the MF portion, from what I've seen.

Re: \'86 MF 1030

Kibby, I agree with Glenn on the manual thing,Check dealer first then do internet search if they are no help.
On the exhaust thing check dealer again for optional exhaust choices,I know my old 135 could have exhaust up or down ,Then again you may need to go to a custom exhaust shop and they should definately be able to help! Jimmy Rader comes to mind in Hughesville or Jeffs Muffler in Calvert county I'm sure there is one close to you. Good Luck /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
