Have a Ford Post Hoe Digger Model 903 No manual, Had leak where drive shaft goes in, removed the four bolt plate, removed and replaced gasket, Drained all old gear oil and flushed reservoir with one qt. automatic trans fluid, Ran unit about twenty minutes then drained. My question is how many qt's to fill reservoir? There is a check plug on side, in the past i just added to bottom of plug with digger on tractor and on level ground . Thinks Phil T

Phil T - welcome to TBN and the forum. Your method of filling and checking( ie - fill til it runs out the check plug hole ) would seem to be appropriate. It's the standard method for most all implements like your PHD. If there is a breather plug on the top of the gear box - be sure it is clean and can allow "breathing".
oosik, Thanks for this Info I was filling correct to bottom of check plug hole. The breather plug on top of gear box has a hole in top with a cotter Pin in it with the legs sprung out inside. There is also a hole on the side where crescent wrench goes on to tighten and loosen, that looks to be smaller and is open.

Phil it goes filled to bottom level of side plug . If you filled whole pumpkin on its side it might create pressure and blow a seal . I believe that takes 80/90 weight oil btw (i believe) . Also we call it a PHD or post hole digger . We wouldnt want to offend any hoe's that read this , they might get mad and bump up the rates ! :laughing:

sounds like you did the right thing. if it's a new seal, try 80/90 w/the oil level @ bottom of side plug hole. if that leaks, jump to 85/140. post hole digger gear boxes don't undergo the sustained work cycle that say roto tiller boxes do. if seal has been replaced, i'd go w/ lighter 1st then heaver if needed. keep that breather open!
