855? HELP

OOPS/I POSTED IN WRONG FORUM/HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOME TIME FOR A COMPACT TRACTOR W/FEL AND BACKHOE.FOUND ONE BUT IT LOOKS ON THE ROUGH SIDE. 2WD W/52 FEL AND WOODS 7500 PTO DRIVEN BH.1350 HRS,TURF TIRES AND 2 EXTRA AG TIRES W/RIMS FOR REAR.I KNOW MUFFLER IS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH SOLENOIDS FOR FUEL & PTO SHUTDOWN[ACCORDING TO OWNER] AND SEAT.WAITING UNTIL LATER THIS PM TO HEAR THIS BABY RUN. HOW BIG WILL THE CAN OF WORMS BE IF I GET FOOLED ON THIS TRACTOR? HELP ! $4500 LOOPHOLE SAYS GOT A TAX PROBLEM ? BUY A TRACTOR !

Well, you can dump a lot of money in a busted tractor. If you're not sure about it...might be best to walk away.

However, the 855 is a tough machine.
And, $4500 is pretty cheap even for 1300 some hours.

You really need to see how it runs...if it pulls pretty strong, might be a worthwhile buy.

Whoa.... the price sounds too good! $4,500 for a mid-low hour 855 hydro even if it's 2WD is leaning towards the lower end of the spectrum. And if the backhoe is even fair condition; then it's a steal!

But, like the sayin' goes "if it sounds too good to be true; it probably is...".

And, if I'm not mistaken --- that horse won't run until you fix the fuel shut-off selenoid --- and it won't run until you fix the PTO selenoid, either.

So... you don't, won't have any chance of knowing the running condition of either the hydro tranny or the engine at this point in the buying process.

I think I'd be holdin' onto my "tax problem" a little longer until I had a better idea of the exact condition of the tractor.

WENT ABOUT 25 FT AND TRACTOR STARTED BOGGING DOWN WITH POWER. INJECTORS ? HYDRO ? JD FEVER MAY HAVE TO COOL DOWN.

My first guess would be crappy fuel.
The problem is, you'll have to dump some money and time (clean out the fuel system, new filters, hydraulic fluids, etc.) just to see if this thing runs.
The only way I'd do that is make sure any such expenses are taken off the price...and make sure you agree to a price, first.
Frankly, I wouldn't dump the money in it.
If the current owner wants to sell it, let him get it in running order first.
