I have read people having this issue. I was hoping to get more than 85.3 hrs! Oh, well at least it is still under warranty, I guess. I also had my dash lights fail. I wiggle the switch and they just flicker. Does anyone know if they updated this tach cable ordeal??:confused2:

My fault, I was just thinking the other day, Wacky has gone a while without a problem. Sorry. :confused3:

BTW, who needs a tach anyway?

I know you probably asked that with your tongue in your cheek, but not everyone can set the rpm to 540 on the pto without it. Ivehad folks burn seals out of gearboxes over spinning them. That, and the hour meter runs off the tach signal doesn't it? It does on my 251xe and the tach gets its pulse signal off the alternator. I had them replace my "faulty tach" giving intermittent trouble, and the new one is having same problem.

I've inspected the wire from end to end and its intact and perfect shape. I'm guessing my alt is the source of trouble. :(

I have a tractor that is pretty much identical to Wackys', except it is older. Mine was built without a tach; we're getting along fine without it.

Wacky, if you have it fixed under warranty, ask them to run the cable with fewer tight turns. It is my opinion, that is what's causing the failures.

If they refuse, or if you do not like they way they ran the new cable, just disconnect from the tach, and rerun to your own satisfaction.

This is a physically driven tach from gears on the end of the alternator.

I like to be able to keep track of the hrs. for maintenance reasons. And since it came with it....it should work!
I WILL be sending you the bill:p!

I plan on replacing it myself. The selling dealer and I are not doing business anymore. And all the other dealers won't warranty anyway because I did not buy from them, no big deal, just a $35 part.

I did not realize your hour meter was driven off of the tach, mine has an electric Hobbs meter.

Yes, in a perfect world everything should work.

They will have to re-engineer this system at some point, if not for any other reason but to save themselves money. This seems to be a slow process, as I learned with the hydraulic filter skid plate.

They never figured people would go baja-ing in the woods with these when they designed them, so there was no protection under there originally. I was in contact with the people who were working on that problem, via e-mails, and even after they finally got the shield designed and tested, it took a while to get it into production. And then more time to package it for consumers to install.

You guys could start sending MF e-mails, or call by phone, to see what they are doing about this. It may not speed things up, but at least you will know what is going on.

I thought that the tach drove the hr. meter, a bit strange myself. The manual states that (I think) around 2600 rpms, is an "actual" hr. I would think that an electric one would be more accurate for maintenance intervals. But, who am I to say??:confused3: I think I may add one since the tach cable is unreliable anyway.

The tach's in the airplanes I fly all have hour meters. But, they generally also do have added electric Hobbs meters.

Just turn the key on and walk away for 10 minutes, that'll tell ya if the hours are electric or not.
