84 Ford 4610 - Head Gasket

Hey Everyone, just reaching out to see if others have more experience with this tractor than I do. We picked up a 84 Ford 4610 2900 hours with a disclosed head gasket problem from the seller as there are a few drips of coolant coming out from the gasket area.

It was such a good clean unit with no rust, original paint, one owner, running and all, that even with this problem we still went and bought it.

We contacted our local ford dealer, and they quoted us around $1500

Just curious if any other owners have come across the head gasket problem on the 4610 and curious if it was only the head gasket needing replacement or further.

While my dad never had an issue with his head gasket leaking it does happen on all kinds of engines. Especially for a diesel or about any engine work the $1500 sounds in the ball park unless you want to do it yourself and keep some of the money you saved buying a tractor with a deep problem. Both mating surfaces need to be checked while the head is off and especially the head itself. You could have the injectors checked while they are out.
