The piece that operates the fuel pump is broken off on my Kohler K301 12 HP engine in my Gravely 8122. Does anyone know of an easy electric pump conversion, or how hard it would be to replace the broken part? I assume it is part of the crankshaft.

If I'm not mistaken the pump runs off a camshaft lobe and the finger that operates the pump is part of the pump.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how hard it is to replace the camshaft?

You should be able to just install a new pump. If the old pump lever fell into the engine removing the sump should give you access to get the parts out. Camshaft removal is done by driving out a rod which the camshaft rotates on. When you drive out the rod the lifters and thrust washers will fall out. The the cam to crank timing will have to be re-aligned during reassembly. Can you get a picture of the old pump?

You aren't. All the K series engines use an eccentric on the cam to actuate the lever. I suspect it's in the sump. I'd just replace the pump and call it good. The splash finger on the rod don't sweep to the bottom of the sump anyway.
