790 VS 870

I have been looking for sometime now and I have a question about the difference between a 790 and a 870. I know the 870 is a heavier frame. The one I am looking at is a 1990 model with 27 HP. Most 790s are 27 HP.
Does the 870 have different gearing for more torque??
I know both are sound tractors. If the 870 is heavier I was wondering how much heavier.
When one starts mixing up the years with different model things are sometimes hard to compare the difference

I believe the 870 has the "tried and true" 9x3 transmission while the 790 has a hi-lo (2 range) transmission with 4 forward and 1 reverse for an 8x2 configuration.

I can't say with certainty regarding the weight difference between the 2 machines but after seeing them up close; it's gotta be several hundred pounds at the very least.

Definitely a good resource... but oftentimes the information is incomplete. Certainly worth your time but don't be surprised if there's a few holes or gaps.

I think the 870 was 2600 lbs and is a lot stronger of a tractor then the 790.
