I was just reading the JD 790 manual and noticed something a bit odd. The manual states that the rear tires for a 790 with MFWD is 12.4-16 or 13.6-16, both 4 ply. Mine are 15-19.5 and are 6 ply tires.

The fronts are also different. Instead of 6.00-12 or 23X8.50-14, they are 25x8.50-14.

Tractordata web site did not reflect these sizes

I checked the Titan tire web site and they are listed as "Loader Tires".

Thought it looked a little "burlier" that other 790'd I've looked at. (See attachment)

My questions are:

1) Could it be the manual is incorrect my year of 790? It's a 2001 and the dealer provided a new manual with the purchase.
2) What would the proper tire pressures be?
3) Does any of the other 790 owners have this tire setup?
4) Any possible problems with MFWD overrun?
5) Could these have been a dealer option?

OR

6) Am I just being a overly detail concerned? :laughing:

I did a quick search on Tractorhouse and JD Macinefinder network, It appears that I found maybe only 5 others 790's with this tire setup.

Thanks for looking

6.00-12 / 12.4-16 ---> R1
23x8.50-14 / 13.6-16 ---> R3
25x8.50-14 / 15-19.5 ---> R4

Your R4 tires are a little bit taller than either the R1 Ag or R3 Turf tires so the tractor is effectively geared a little bit higher (higher top speed & lower torque) but not by much. The most important aspect is the ratio of tire height front to rear. As long as that is close to the same, it will be fine.

Same as on my 4300. I'm in the need of new front tires. Too much ice and snowplowing.

Keep your sense of humor. :) :) :thumbsup:

Oh yeah. Got reminded last night when we had dinner with a neighbor. We were discussing problems he was having with his IH 454, when he thank me for buying my JD. :confused::confused:

He said that since I had bought it he hadn't had to plow his drive once this winter. :laughing: I told it was the least I could do for a neighbor.

I did find one thing out. The new manual from JD is for Serial # 190064 on. That's a late 2007 model. I guess I shouldn't believe everything I read.

I will say these Titan's have the most aggressive tread for an R4 I've seen. One of the reasons I bought it.
