790 stack exh vs side

Have any of you guys bought the short horizontal exhaust to replace the stack that comes stock on the 790? I agree with some others about stinky exhaust in the face. My neighbor has a 4400 with the side exhaust and he claims his gets in his face as well. I do like the fact that the stack catches a lot of limbs before they hit me in the head. Is it any louder? I have only heard my tractor with earplugs in and it sounds very powerful and smooth. Recently I had my wife doing some RFM work and I was astounded at how loud it was from a distance with no earlplugs.

I printed out the operator manu. from the JD web site and they show a pic of it in what I printer out. It's nuthing more than a aprox. 1-2" straight pipe that bolts up to the same place the stack does you just remove the stack and install this, with all this if your mowing into a head wind I bet you still smell it althought it's closer to knee hight when you are sitting on the tractor. And it may make a nice stain on the inside of your loader arm over a period of time.

You may be able to get a muffler shop bend you one something like this, of course you won't be needing the muffler in it and if you look close (it's hard to see) the tip is pointing down.

I hope that I'm not comparing apples and oranges here. I have a JD 670 and it came with the regular, tall stack. The same day that I picked up the tractor I ordered the little stub pipe that replaces the tall one. I have a lot of trees and bushes and I knew that I was setting myself up for a catastrophe with that tall pipe. That little stub cost about $25. I could have sawed off the tall pipe and accomplished the same thing, but I wanted to save it "just in case." Anyway, I installed the stub pipe myself and have been very happy with it for several years. I haven't had any problems with exhaust fumes.
