Tractor
john deere 790
well after checking them both out i went with the 790 fel and the lx5 brush cutter. put in 4 hours of cutting today. i think i made the right choice. really hilly where i am so the 4 wheel really gives me added confidence in keeping the frontend down.

The 790 is a great tractor!
I am very sure you'll enjoy using it for years...

Congrats Cook, you'll really enjoy that 790. Be sure to fill in your profile now that you're a real tractor owner. What tires did you get? Post some pics so I can reminisce over a clean 790 (something I haven't seen in a while) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Congratulations, you will love your new tractor. I have 50 hours on mine now and can't believe how much I have been able to do with it. Post some pictures when you can /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i did 9.6 hours of bush hogging and fel loader work the past 2 days i really have enjoyed the tractor. the 790 seems like one tuff tractor. i did rip all the wires loose under the left fender (already rewired though). i do see how you need to keep your radiator screen clean. after 3 hours of bush hogging in about 4 foot brush i noticed temp. hand rise slightly. after cleaning and blowing engine with compressed air everything ok. we could use some cooler temps though it was 85 degrees in west georgia today.

"really hilly where i am so the 4 wheel really gives me added confidence in keeping the frontend down. "

Two things to remember:

Wet grass is slick...that MFWD won't help too much if you're slipping sideways or down the hill. Use good judgement before you operate on those hills! Walk 'em first if you need to... No task is that important to work in an unsafe manner.

These non-synchro transmissions don't shift when you're moving. Whichever gear you select going up or down slope is the one you need to stay in. If you do need to shift gears, make sure you don't pull it out of gear until you're stopped. Otherwise, you may go for a rather wild ride in neutral. Better to select a lower gear to ensure you've got the power to get up the hill and to ensure maximum engine braking going down that slope.
