750 Indicator lights

Hi everyone,
I'm new at posting, I just bought a 750 John Deere '87 model. I'm not sure if the temp lite is working right. When I turn on the ignition sw. only the oil and the Battery lights are on, I used a 9volt battery to check the bulb, it was good.

I've owned two 750's and I'm pretty sure that the light is used to indicate when the engine reaches a certain temperature, to warn you of overheating. I believe it should also come on when you turn the ignition on, as the other two lights come on, just so you can verify it is not burned out. It may be that you have a wire loose somewhere in that circuit, or maybe the sending unit might be bad?? I don't have any of the 750 manuals anymore, but maybe someone else who has the manuals can add to this.

Btw, you can verify the age of your tractor by comparing the serial number with the list of serial numbers on the tractordata site. Check the link below....

I doubt it is suppose to come on with the key. The others will because you have no oil pressure and no charge with the engine not running. You can test it by pulling off the wire to the sender and grounding it to the engine block and then turn the key. It should lite.
