73 Ford 4000 SU, replacing hydraulic lift cover

Lift arm lock washer gave way, bolt came out (all while mowing) and right lift arm fell off and thrust washer on end of lift shaft fell down in the bell housing. Removed the lift cover by taking all bolts out which left the lift cylinder assembly laying in bell housing.

Fished out the thrust washer, got new gasket and o rings, bolted the lift cylinder assembly to the lift cover but am having a **** of a time getting it back on the housing with the lift cylinder assembly bolted to the cover.

any advice from someone who's done this would be most appreciated.
