1720D Hydraulic Pump Replacement Done

So after blowing my Hydraulic pump and having the fluid coming out of crankcase breather tube. I decided to change it. Unbolting it was pretty easy, the muffler and exhaust manifold needed to be removed. The bolts came off fairly easy. Once the pump is off you need to remove the drive gear off the shaft to put onto the next pump. (In hindsite, I should have ordered a new gear, it would have made the job much easier). So in my case the drive gear had welded itself onto the shaft and would not budge. After hammering and cursing I took it to a buddies machine shop. We tried flaming it and hammering with no luck. Finally, I decided to cut the shaft off and we pressed it off with his hydraulic press. After painting the pump and placing the gear on the shaft, I bolted it onto the engine and touched up the paint. It worked properly but had a high pitch whine for the first few minutes which made me pretty nervous. After using it for a couple hours I dont notice the whine as much and it's still working properly.

I did change the fluid and cleaned the metal filter and changed the removable one. I also changed the regular oil, being that it was fouled up with hydraulic fluid.

One more tractor project done!

Nicely done, and thanks for the write up. As for the whine, you might have some cavitation going on. I would make sure all hydraulic lines are tight and not sucking in any air.

Yes great write up!! And the way I look at it is that you removed the gear and didn't damage it. Which I bet is a common problem. With the whine you can rule out that the gears match and not a problem. And a better piece of mind IMO.....
