72\" Toothbar pic for TarHeelMan

TarHeelMan, I payed $325 for my toothbar, after seeing it. It was very heavy duty, with the square ended 2 1/4" teeth. Heres a pic. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifIH3444

IH3444,

Nice! Very nice!! I'm sure the dirt trembles at the very sight of your bucket /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I saw a sample (not the full bar) at a dealer today and he is going to include it in my quote. You'all have convinced me. I think $300 or so extra will save me some money and frustration in the long run.

A toothbar is like fingers on your hand. It's not only a super aid to digging, but also you'll learn to use it to grab and move things you couldn't do with a smooth bucket edge. The only time it gets in the way is backdragging. You'll probably learn to do that with the back of the bucket instead of the cutting edge. I don't ever think you'll regret getting the toothbar. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Do they bend any on the tips. Have you ever had to straigthen then out. I copied your picture and the area I'm talking about is circled. I need a tooth bar for cleaning up areas were I feed hay at for my horses. After putting rolled hay in the same place for months, the bottom layers get packed down pretty good. Using the bucket lip is not cutting it right now. I'm actually having to cut into the ground just to get the old hay up off the ground. Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Cliff

Haven't used it much yet, but I would think for what you want to do with it, it won't bend. I think that the flat part you are pointing to is the very hardened part welded to the tooth which fits over the tooth holder. If it bends on me, I'll straighten it out. At this point in my life not much spilled milk bothers me much anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

As a fellow Tarheel, I would highly recommend that you consider a Markham aftermarket toothbar {HERE}, out of Denton, NC. Allen and crew fabricate excellent stuff, and their customer service is second to none. I've bought two bars from them, and they are top drawer. Allen even supplies the hardware and two pieces of drilled 3/8 steel to mount to prevent reaming of the holes in your bucket sidewalls. Their prices are excellent, and shipping is reasonable. I paid $170 for a 48" bar.

Re: 72\" Toothbar pic for TarHeelMan

Tooth bar opens up a whole new world for loader uses. I have a heavy duty one on my 60hp tractor and have moved a lot of stuff, dug up rocks, dirt, etc. It is as straight today as it was when i bought it. Only time it is not helpfull is if you are trying to move a pile of material such as stone from a hard flat surface. You don't have that clean straight edge to get it all. Otherwise, I can't imagine taking it off. It also adds a lot of rigidity to the bucket. Looked into some clamp on pallet forks, and they won't work either with tooth bar. As for back dragging, I like it better. Can put teeth down and break up material. For flat finish, just curl up the bucket and use the back edge and feather the down force as needed. Have fun! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That tooth bar looks like the ones Markam Welding 888-453-6252 makes. I bet that's where they had it made. It's only an hour or less from them. I bought mine from them, and they are great people to work with. Give them a call. I paid $260 for a 60" tooth bar delivered to the house.
