This has turned into a mess, huge mess, started last summer with one problem and quickly turned into a lot of problems. We needed to replace the fuel tank but in order to replace the tank we had to pull the steering wheel which apparently had never been off. The of that was we ended up having to cut the steering wheel off, thought maybe if we could get the shaft in a vice and we could work it off that way and just replace the steering wheel. Ended up having to relace the shaft and while we were at it replaced just bought a complete assembly with the worm nut. When we got the steering box assembly apart we realized that it had dried out and the bottom thrust bearings were shot. So new bearings/race was ordered.
After a lot of back and forth and online manuals and pictures I was able to get it all back together and working but starting a couple of weeks ago I found a bind in the steering. Started taking it back apart yesterday and found the top race above the worm nut is bent, I didn't take it all the way apart I wanted to make sure I had the parts to put it back together before I did but can anyone point me in the right direction of what its supposed to look like, what parts are needed above worm nut? I have a couple of manuals but they just show a race no bearing. When I installed it, I fealt like it wasnt just right but could not figure out a right way. if I remember correctly the cupped bearing holder slides over the shaft with loose bearings on top, then race on top of it?
