I'm getting ready to purchase a TC45DA with FEL and wanted to know if I could hook up a 7 ft mowing deck to the tractor? Will a medium duty be to heavy and will the motor bog down with that size Bush Hog?

Thanks
Ryan

I would think a tc45 should tote a 7' mower pretty reasonably.

I'm running a 7 ft. Rhino SE-7 behind my TC-45D with FEL. The 45 handles the 7 footer well about 75 percent of the time. I mainly mow light grass about 3 to 4 feet tall, blackberry vines etc., nothing really heavy. I cut a field of coastal bermuda last week that was about 30 inches high. The field was used for haying for many years and was in great shape. The grass was very thick and healthy. I wound up only taking a 5 foot bite in about half of the field due to the engine bogging down. It would have been nice to have another 15 or 20 PTO HP. Also keep in mind the mower will extend out beyond the wheels about 6 to 8 inches on each side of the tractor. This is a advantage when trying to cut close to a fence line or a building. This is a disadvantage when trying to get in tight places full of trees. Also the 7 footer will not fit between the fenders of my equipment trailer.

In hindsight I don't know I would buy a 7 footer again. I may go with a medium weight 6 footer like a Bush Hog 286. Of course I could get a TN-60 for the SE-7 !

It all depends on what you want to do with it.

New Holland must be using some 'smaller horses' these days. My 31 year old ford 5000 runs a 10' mower just fine.

A guy down the road that bought a 5000 out from under me a few years ago.. runs a 15' mower on his... cuts bermuda.. at least 2' tall.

Both are gear units, diesel.

Funny story about that. The guy bought a used ford 6610II and a 15' mower to mow with. 2 weeks after buying it the engine developed problems. He took it to the local tractor mechanic to fix.. This mechanic had a 5000 that he had just restored setting out front. I was eyeing it and had pretty much decided on purchasing it. Well.. the mechanic loaned (rented? ) the 5000 to the guy so he could cut... When i called about it the mechanic said he would sell it to me when it was off loan..... The guy liked the 5000 better than the 6610II and when the 6610II was fixed.. he sold it, and bought the 5000... go figure!!
