Idle is set too high.

beenthere is exactly right. Either that or you have it revved up some when you tryed to shift it. It isn't an issue at all. Either have it idled completely down when you shift or set the idle lower is all it is. They are all do it.

You need to get rid of it. It probably isn't worth much. If you give me directions to your house, I'll show up and help you out and buy it from you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You might want to pull the cover off the clutch and blow the dust out. My 6x4 Diesel did that and it had a lot of dust under the cover. After a good cleaning it shifted a lot better.

Are you sure it's 10 years old? Mine was an '01 and it was the first Diesel the JD dealer had ever received, and they sell a lot of them.

He He He -- not for sale: after 2 days it was clear I should have bought one years ago /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I spent a few months going round & round about what & where to buy.

Big concern is those ATV's go 50+ mph & my brothers kids are 4 daughters just beginning ATV riding age.

The build tag on it says 1995 but I know it was originally sold in 1997. Original owner traded over the Winter for a new HPX diesel. He had the owners manual & it took awhile to get to me. Manual did not address grinding.

The dealer had a bunch of different trades but I only drove this one because it was a diesel.

Thanks for the tips - I'll clean out the clutch, check idle & continue to zoom around /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Very nice! You will get tired of it and it will get "ugly" long before you can ever wear it out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif As the guys said, make sure the idle is set slow, and put it in gear kind of fast. I know it sounds odd, but if you put it in gear slow and easy, it will grind worse. What you own is one very tough creature. Enjoy!!
