6862 Information

Looking at a 6862 tractor with low hours on it (2wd) and looking for feedback. Tractor would be a replacement for my old Case/David brown 1210 and will be used for round baling (4X5 Bale), hay raking and to pull an older square baler for the few sq's I make (the older I get the fewer they become). So I'm looking for info on fuel useage, ease of operation, reliability, how quickly Montana is at getting parts, how you guys like them out in the field all day and anything else I may have over looked. Thanks in advace.

I've got the 5740C and not quite as big as the one you're buying. The Montana tractor generally is a very good machine and certainly an excellent buy for the money when new. To be completely honest, I don't know what you're paying or it's value though. The only problem I see with Montana is some of its dealers have left them, and thus left those in that particular area in somewhat of a lurch regarding warranty work and getting parts. Where a Montana dealer is within reasonable distance from you, there aren't many problems at all regarding repairs or getting parts. In areas where there is no dealer near you, the other dealers, from where ever, will jump in and drop ship parts to you. In fact, most will go out of their way to help you. Montana dealers generally are really good people.

Do some digging as to parts availability. I believe that model is made in Romania by UTB. I'm not sure if UTB is still in business. Call a current Montana dealer to confirm.

I also beleive that those model tractors are the same as some of the older Long tractors. I also think some of the parts are crossed with older fords also.

These are the UTB machines, the Romanian gov't closed the facility down some time ago. No parts cross reference to Ford.

Thanks for the information. Since Montana bought out Farmtrac, I'm assumming they will be supporting those UTB tractors for some time (dealers feel free to jump in here with a yay or nay, LOL). I like the tractor, so I guess my next question would be it's value. It looks, sounds and runs great, ex rubber, 2 remotes, so if anyone has a ball park estimate (looking for a warm and fuzzy, I'm a livestock guy and the girls have to pay for it, LOL), that would be a help. Thanks

New according to the Montana website they say it is around $18,000. So I would say used low hours around $12-15,000. To me Montana make a great product but I think that is a little steep. You could probably find a slightly more used tractor of another brand for half that cost for what you are doing.
