Can a good competent mechanic rebuild these Holley carbs? Or, do the Holleys have little tricky things that only special carb wizards know about?

any reasonable mechanic should be able to rebuild these ... look for an older mechanic that has done carbs in the past, the rebuild kit comes with specs of where to set things anyways ..

'68 might be too old to get parts for though.. they haven't been made for 52 years..

The carb is actually still performing well, except for a leak at the bottom. But, I figured to correct that, no telling what else might pop up. After reading about the aftermarket carb kits, I did decide to let the Ford/New Holland parts folks send me the one I needed, even tho it cost more. I really think that all the carb kits are aftermarket now, tho. Course, I'm no carb expert. Thanks for the response.

Yes, I was concerned about that. I found many kits available that said they were compatible with my carb. But, also read many posts from ppl who had received kits and the gaskets didn't match and other things as well. I got my kit thru Ford/New Holland in hopes of helping my odds. We'll see.

When you're done farten around with that Holley remember that the $400+ Zenith is a direct, no surprises replacement and will make your tractor run great.

:D For sure will keep that in mind and am glad to hear about positive experience with a replacement carb. Thanks!

This Tractor Parts - Yesterday's Tractor Co. is the place to go for vintage tractor parts.

Yes! I ordered quite a few parts from them when rebuilding the 4000. And, some things for 7740. Seems like when I was ordering a rebuild kit, I couldn't pin down which kit I would need, from their website. I could read my carb number C5NN9510F. But, I couldn't find an 'R' number or 'list' number on my carb. I imagine I'll be able to see other numbers when the carb is removed. Haven't been able to do that yet cause it's been being used. I wanted the kit in hand for a kwik rebuild turn around with little down time. Hoping for that game plan to work. It looks like there is a back up option with the Zenith replacement, if the kit I purchased doesn't get it done. Thanks for the reply.
